       LEMON CRATE LABEL LIST PAGE 1

After orange labels, probably the most sought after type of crate label, lemon labels have been collected for year.  Southern California has a large base of collectors and a monthly swap meet devoted to not only citrus labels, but other types of labels also.  The citrus industry began using labels sometime in the later part of the 1800's.  This practice continued till the 1950's when the use standard two section orange/lemon crate was abandoned for the more economical corrugated cardboard container, which came from the manufacturer preprinted with the brand name and needed information.
